Scenes of Mesoscale Activity is a musical exploration of the formation, destruction, and aftermath of a localized extreme weather event. Scenes of Mesoscale Activity shows a beautiful sunny day gradually becoming a rainy day as cloudsroll in, followed by a storm that later develops into a tornado. The tornado in the center of the piece demonstrates the progression of a thunderstorm as it develops into a supercell, then a funnel cloud, and finally a tornado. The sequence itself, if all segments are played for the written durations, will last approximately the same amount of time as an average tornado will stay on the ground. After the storm passes the community must rebuild as the sun comes out again.
