Samantha Egan

Sam Egan is a composer and percussionist from Pennsylvania, currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Composition and Percussion Performance at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). Their artistic work spans across ensemble performance, pit orchestra, and original composition, with a particular passion for blending traditional and contemporary elements in percussion.

As a performer, Sam has played with a wide range of ensembles, including the IUP Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Symphony Band, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Band, and Jazz Ensemble, as well as the Westmoreland Symphonic Winds and university-level concert and jazz ensembles. Their pit orchestra experience includes productions such as Beauty and the Beast, Shrek the Musical, The Wedding Singer, The Wizard of Oz, and Cinderella, where they contributed as a percussionist.

Sam is also an emerging composer. Their concert works include Scenes of Mesoscale Activity (2023) and Requiem for a Jester (2024), alongside chamber works such as Unity Through Division for percussion ensemble (2023) and a Quartet for Strings in G (2024). Their solo percussion repertoire demonstrates creativity and variety, with works like A Grade School Retrospective, Willful Ignorance, and their two Haiku pieces for snare drum. Most recently, they have composed Cymbalism for suspended cymbals (2025) and Time is Fleeting (2025).

Dedicated to teaching and community engagement, Sam is an instructor at the IUP Community Music School (2025–present), where they share their knowledge and enthusiasm for percussion with students of all ages. They have also pursued professional development through the Screen Music Program at the Conservatorio di Musica Franco Vittadini in 2025.

Sam is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), the Percussive Arts Society, and the IUP Percussion Club, where they have served as Secretary (2024–2025) and Equipment Cohead (2024–present). They were also inducted as an honorary member of Phi Boota Roota Percussion Fraternity in 2024.
